New actors, a revised schedule
Kiernan Shipka and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai will lead Scott Coffey’s psychological thriller Hyena, replacing previously announced stars Archie Madekwe and Havana Rose Liu. Edgar Ramírez and Rosemarie DeWitt also join the cast. The production is scheduled to begin in Spokane, Washington, early in 2027. The announcement gives the project a new cast and timetable ahead of the planned shoot.[1], [2]
A visit unsettles the family
Shipka plays Genevieve, who takes her new boyfriend Alexei home to meet her family. Woon-A-Tai plays Alexei, whose growing involvement with the relatives brings hidden conflicts and desires into view. The household’s apparently comfortable life begins to fracture. Coffey describes the film’s horror as emerging from grief and love, locating the threat within the relationships at the centre of the story.[1]
Lynch’s involvement in development
David Lynch, who died in 2025, was closely involved in Hyena’s early development and has an executive producer credit. Coffey had appeared in Lynch’s Mulholland Drive before Lynch became his mentor. David Lancaster and Jeff Elliott are among the producers. Upgrade and WME Independent are handling sales and plan to introduce the project to buyers at the American Film Market.[1]
