Reeves returns to the role
Keanu Reeves has completed an agreement to return as John Wick in an animated prequel at Lionsgate. The studio has given the film the green light. Reeves will also produce the project, extending his involvement beyond the central performance. The animated film depicts Wick’s life before the original film, when his freedom depended on a deadly assignment.[1], [2]
The assignment before the films
The premise centres on the Impossible Task: Wick must kill his rivals in a single night to release himself from obligations to the High Table and live with Helen. The project had already been announced before Reeves closed his deal. His agreement supplies the newly reported casting development for a film whose basic story was previously outlined.[1]
An animation team takes shape
Shannon Tindle will direct from a screenplay by Ryan and Kaz Firpo. Tindle’s previous animation work includes Ultraman: Rising and Kubo and the Two Strings. Franchise producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road and Chad Stahelski of 87Eleven Entertainment are involved, alongside Reeves. Point Grey also joins the production team for the animated feature.[1]
