The 2027 ballot opens
Lady Gaga, Jack White and Blondie members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein are among the nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s 2027 class. The organization has announced the ballot ahead of its New York induction gala. Eligible voting members have until 14 December to submit their choices, with separate categories for performing songwriters and writers primarily known for songs recorded by others.[1], [2]
Writing behind familiar songs
The ballot reaches beyond the artists who sing their own material. Kandi Burruss’s writing includes No Scrubs and Bills, Bills, Bills, while Pete Bellotte’s credits include I Feel Love. Boy Meets Girl wrote How Will I Know and I Wanna Dance With Somebody. These nominations recognize the writers of songs that listeners associate most immediately with the performers who recorded them.[1]
Members choose the next class
Members may choose up to three nominees in each category. A writer with a catalogue of notable songs becomes eligible twenty years after the first commercial release of a song. The performing-songwriter nominees also include Shakira, P!nk and Sia. The announced names are candidates for induction; the final 2027 honourees will be announced after the voting process, early next year.[1], [2]
