Chile's consumer prices rise 0.6 per cent in August and 4.1 per cent over twelve months

Chile's consumer price index rose 0.6 per cent in August, taking the increase so far this year to 3.6 per cent and the twelve-month rate to 4.1 per cent. Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 1.4 per cent and transport 1.6 per cent. Information and communication fell 0.3 per cent.

The monthly rise is 0.6 per cent and the twelve-month rate 4.1 per cent

Chile's National Statistics Institute said the consumer price index rose 0.6 per cent in August from July. The increase so far this year reached 3.6 per cent and the twelve-month rate 4.1 per cent. Nine of the thirteen divisions in the basket pushed the index up, three pulled it down and one had no effect. La Tercera reported that the twelve-month rate had stood at 3.5 per cent in July.[1], [2]

Food at 1.4 per cent and transport at 1.6 per cent led the monthly rise

Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 1.4 per cent and added 0.317 percentage points to the monthly figure, the largest single contribution. Transport rose 1.6 per cent and added 0.201 percentage points. La Tercera reported that beef rose 3.9 per cent and potatoes 17.8 per cent, while air passenger transport rose 24.6 per cent, international air fares 32.6 per cent and gasoline 0.9 per cent.[1], [2]

Information and communication fell 0.3 per cent

Information and communication was the clearest decline, falling 0.3 per cent and subtracting 0.017 percentage points. La Tercera said mobile-phone equipment fell 1.9 per cent and audiovisual-content subscriptions 1.8 per cent. Over twelve months, transport rose 6.8 per cent and food and non-alcoholic beverages 4.6 per cent.[1], [2]
