Hungarian inflation edges up to 1.3 per cent in August as services cost 5.0 per cent more

Consumer prices in Hungary were 1.3 per cent higher in August than a year earlier and 0.2 per cent higher than in July. Core inflation stood at 2.0 per cent. Food was 1.4 per cent cheaper than a year earlier, while services cost 5.0 per cent more.

The annual rise is 1.3 per cent and the monthly rise 0.2 per cent

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office said consumer prices were 1.3 per cent higher on average in August than a year earlier and 0.2 per cent higher than in July. Core inflation stood at 2.0 per cent. Telex reported the same print: 1.3 per cent over twelve months and 0.2 per cent on the month. The monthly, annual and core readings come from the same release.[1], [2]

Food was 1.4 per cent cheaper, and 4.8 per cent cheaper excluding catering

Food prices were 1.4 per cent lower than a year earlier, and 4.8 per cent lower once catering services are left out. Telex carried the same two rates from the statistical office. Alcoholic drinks and tobacco were 3.2 per cent dearer and consumer durables 1.5 per cent dearer. The food decline sits beside the service increase.[1], [2]

Services cost 5.0 per cent more and natural gas 10.9 per cent less

Services cost 5.0 per cent more than a year earlier, with theatre tickets up 17.6 per cent, goods transport up 13.9 per cent and taxi fares up 11.0 per cent. Electricity, gas and other fuels were 4.3 per cent cheaper, as natural gas fell 10.9 per cent and electricity rose 1.4 per cent. Motor fuels were 1.3 per cent dearer.
