The pause at 3 plants

The BBC reports that Ineos is pausing production at 3 chemical plants in Hull. The Standard reports the same pause at Saltend and says 2 plants are already shut, with a third following within days. Jim Ratcliffe, in the BBC account, said UK gas costs 12 times US gas and 8 times coal-based production in China.[1], [2]

Whose job figures

The BBC says the site employs 245 people directly and that the pause can affect up to 1,000 staff. The Standard says about 1,000 people work at Saltend, about 240 of them directly for Ineos, with a further 3,000 in the supply chain. Those are each paper's own counts. The two counts stay separate.[1], [2]

Redundancies

The Standard says no redundancies are planned while production is paused. The BBC describes the pause and the staff who can be affected, up to 1,000. The shared development is the halt at the Hull plants. The employment totals stay attributed to the paper that printed them. Both papers report the halt at the Hull plants. Each paper's staff total stays with that paper, so there is no single invented headcount.[2], [1]
