FactSet revenue rises 6.3 per cent while operating margin narrows

Quarterly sales reach 634.7 million dollars
FactSet, a financial-data provider, increased revenue by 6.3 per cent in its fiscal fourth quarter to 634.7 million dollars from 596.9 million dollars a year earlier. The results cover the quarter ended August 31 and were released on September 30. Organic revenue, adjusted for certain acquisitions and currency effects, grew 7.1 per cent.[1], [2]
Compensation and restructuring weigh on margin
Reported operating margin declined to 24.7 per cent from 29.7 per cent. FactSet cited higher employee compensation, one-time restructuring charges and incentives tied to subscription value. Adjusted operating margin eased to 33.0 per cent from 33.8 per cent. Reported diluted earnings per share fell to 3.41 dollars from 4.03 dollars, while adjusted earnings rose to 4.52 dollars from 4.05 dollars. The adjusted measures exclude specified expenses and other items.[1]
Full-year revenue grows as shareholder returns continue
Full fiscal-year revenue rose 6.7 per cent to 2.48 billion dollars. Quarterly operating cash flow was 204.7 million dollars and free cash flow was 177.3 million dollars; both were slightly below the comparable year-earlier period. FactSet repurchased 138 million dollars of shares during the quarter and paid more than 41 million dollars in dividends. Annual subscription retention remained above 95 per cent.[1]
