Boeing engineers approve contracts and avert a strike

Boeing engineers and technical workers approved four-year contracts ahead of the expiry of their existing agreements on 6 October. The terms provide a combined 32 per cent wage increase over the contract period, beginning with a 10 per cent rise. The vote removes a possible strike by this employee group and also changes retirement contributions, paid leave and mandatory overtime limits.

Engineers and technicians approve separate agreements

Boeing engineers and technical workers represented by the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, or SPEEA, approved new contracts on 1 October. The union represents aerospace professionals; the vote averted a possible strike before their existing agreements expired on 6 October.[1], [2]

The professional contract received 67.6 per cent support from 11,675 votes. The technical contract received 53.5 per cent support from 3,854 votes. The agreements cover employees in the states of Washington, Oregon, Utah and California.[1]

Four-year terms begin with a 10 per cent pay rise

The four-year agreements provide a combined 32 per cent wage increase, starting with a 10 per cent rise effective Friday. Retirement contributions for more than 7,500 workers younger than forty increase from 3 per cent to 4 per cent in January.[1]

Overtime limits and paid leave change

Mandatory overtime limits apply to both professional and technical workers, with the latter capped at 112 hours per quarter. Employees gain three additional paid days and three days of annual bereavement leave. Layoff benefits improve for workers with one to three years of service.[1]

SPEEA members at former Spirit operations acquired by Boeing remain on separate agreements. Those contracts expire in 2028 and 2030.[1]
