Extra payment precedes the festive season
India’s central government released approximately 1.09 trillion rupees in additional tax revenue to state governments ahead of the festive season. The payment came on top of regular monthly tax transfers. The Finance Ministry said the funds were intended to support capital expenditure, development projects and welfare spending.[1], [2]
The financial year’s second additional instalment
The ministry announced the release on 31 October and described it as the financial year’s second additional instalment. Its exact total was 109,019 crore rupees. A crore equals 10 million units, a counting convention used in the government’s allocation table. The transfer distributes tax revenue to state governments rather than announcing a new tax rate for households or companies.[1]
Uttar Pradesh receives the largest allocation
The allocation covers 28 Indian states. Uttar Pradesh received the largest amount at 19,208 crore rupees, followed by Bihar with 10,845 crore rupees and Madhya Pradesh with 8,010 crore rupees. West Bengal received 7,866 crore rupees and Maharashtra 7,022 crore rupees. Rajasthan was allocated 6,460 crore rupees, while Odisha received 4,819 crore rupees. Karnataka received 4,504 crore rupees and Tamil Nadu 4,466 crore rupees.[1]
