A new monthly high for the Indian manufacturer
Indian carmaker Maruti Suzuki finished October with its largest monthly vehicle sales total. Its 276,120 vehicles included domestic business, supplies to other manufacturers and exports. The total was 25 per cent higher than a year earlier and exceeded the previous record of about 243,000 vehicles in May. Domestic passenger-vehicle sales reached 212,384, an annual increase of 20.46 per cent.[1], [2]
Utility vehicles approach the car total
Combined mini, compact and midsize car sales increased from 85,210 to 100,877. Domestic utility vehicles, including sport utility vehicles and multipurpose models, reached 97,787, against 77,571 a year earlier. Eeco sales rose from 13,537 to 13,720. Light commercial vehicles added 4,405, bringing passenger and light-commercial domestic sales together to 216,789. Supplies to Toyota were a separate 9,459 vehicles.[1]
Overseas shipments rise faster
Exports increased 59.32 per cent from a year earlier to 49,872, representing about 18.06 per cent of October sales. April–October sales across all channels reached 1,655,498, compared with 1,299,629 in the previous year. Exports over those seven months totalled 282,727. Supplies to other manufacturers declined over that period, falling from 67,778 to 55,722 despite their October increase.[1]
