BlackSky doubles quarterly revenue as derivatives boost net income

BlackSky’s third-quarter revenue rose 118 per cent to 42.8 million dollars, supported by demand for its satellite-based services. The company returned to net profit, with a substantial gain on financial derivatives alongside a much smaller operating profit. Management raised its annual revenue and adjusted earnings forecasts, while retaining its capital-spending range.

Satellite services lift quarterly revenue

BlackSky reported a sharp increase in revenue for the third quarter ended in September 2026. The satellite imagery and intelligence company generated about 42.8 million dollars, more than twice the year-earlier level.[1], [2]

The company put annual revenue growth at 118 per cent, compared with 19.6 million dollars a year earlier. Space-based intelligence and AI services supplied 32.7 million dollars. Management linked growth to demand for services delivered through its Gen-3 satellites.[1]

Derivatives make a large contribution to net profit

Net income reached 18.5 million dollars after a 15.3 million dollar loss a year earlier. The income statement included a 19.7 million dollar gain on derivatives and operating income of 405,000 dollars. The derivatives reflect fair-value changes in equity warrants and other equity instruments. Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation were 12.8 million dollars.[1]

Annual forecasts rise as investment continues

Management raised its annual revenue outlook to 140–150 million dollars and its adjusted earnings outlook to 18–24 million dollars. The capital-expenditure forecast stayed at 50–60 million dollars. Quarterly capital spending was 15.4 million dollars. Cash, restricted cash and short-term investments totalled 231.1 million dollars at September 30. In the first nine months, operating activities used cash.[1]
