Lines of control in Gaza and Syria

Israeli control will delimit an international force's work in Gaza, while a new advance in Syria renewed the United Nations' objection under the 1974 disengagement arrangement.

Conditional entry for the Gaza force

Israel's security cabinet approved entry to Gaza for the International Stabilization Force envisaged in US President Donald Trump's plan. The initial 200-person contingent is expected to draw from countries such as Uganda and Morocco, coordinate fully with the Israeli military, and operate only outside areas under Israeli military control. Israel will also approve which countries may contribute personnel. No deployment date was announced, and Israel is reported to control about 70 percent of Gaza.[1]

A new checkpoint in Syria

Syria's state news agency SANA said Israeli troops advanced towards villages in the country's southwest and established a checkpoint at Al-Ardah. Visiting Damascus, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity and demanded an end to Israeli actions that he said breached the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement. The UN plans to submit a comprehensive report to the Security Council before the end of the month. The report gave no casualty figure linked to the advance.[2]

Field control shapes both arrangements

The reports concern different legal and political frameworks. In both, an international arrangement is constrained by the line of control on the ground. In Gaza, the approved force's work depends on existing Israeli military control; in Syria, the new checkpoint conflicts with the disengagement line recognized by the United Nations. Deployment has not begun in the first case, while a military advance was reported in the second. The contrast separates formal approval from the facts of territorial control that shape implementation.[1], [2]
