Kyiv talks end with Zelenskyy leaving the territorial deadlock to leaders
Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner said they left Kyiv encouraged after talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian president repeated that unresolved questions such as territorial control can be settled only by leaders, not envoys. British, French and German national security advisers joined the second round, held a day after the pair's three-hour meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Envoys leave Kyiv encouraged
Steve Witkoff called the meeting between Jared Kushner, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the US delegation meaningful and substantive, saying the envoys left Kyiv highly encouraged. Kushner said the team was trying to create conditions and arrangements for a long-term, durable peace. The talks came during the envoys' first visit to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion.[1], [2]
Territory remains for leaders
Zelenskyy said the delegation's arrival mattered and that Kyiv had waited a long time for the visit. He nevertheless repeated that unresolved questions such as control of territory in eastern Ukraine could be settled only at leader level, not by envoys. Territorial control remained one of the main issues on which the sides had not found common ground. The talks ended without resolving it.[1], [2]
An expanded second round after Moscow
British, French and German national security advisers joined the second round alongside senior Ukrainian security officials and negotiators. Witkoff and Kushner had spent three hours with Vladimir Putin in Moscow a day earlier. The White House said decisions would be announced within weeks, while the details of the proposal under discussion were not made public.[1], [3]
