Fighting grows along the Taiz-Mokha route as casualty tallies diverge

An AFP tally carried by Al-Monitor puts the toll in Yemen's latest fighting above 300. Al Jazeera reported more than 60 deaths, while Anadolu Agency separately covered fierce fighting in the Al-Kadhah sector linking Taiz and Mokha. Independent reports confirm fighting along the route, but there is no common verified total.

Different casualty snapshots of the same fighting

An AFP tally published by Al-Monitor says more than 300 combatants and some civilians had been killed since the Houthi offensive began on Thursday. An earlier Al Jazeera snapshot reported more than 60 deaths. The figures do not cover the same cut-off time, so the smaller number does not independently confirm the larger one. Losses supplied by the belligerents remain attributed claims, not a verified final total.[1], [2]

The front between Taiz and Mokha is corroborated

A government-side military official told AFP that the Houthis had cut the Taiz-Mokha road on Saturday evening. Anadolu Agency separately reported fierce fighting between the government-aligned National Resistance Forces and the Houthis in western Taiz's Al-Kadhah sector, which it identifies as linking Taiz and Mokha. The second report does not confirm that the whole road was cut, but it corroborates fighting on the same route through a separate reporting chain.[1], [3]

The displacement figure comes from the UN

The AFP report cites the UN humanitarian coordination office OCHA as saying that about 1,790 households were displaced after shelling and clashes in Maqbanah and Jabal Habashi. Al Jazeera also reports that fighting was concentrated in Taiz, Hodeidah and along the western Red Sea coast. Separate from battlefield claims, those findings show the conflict's widening humanitarian and geographic reach.[1], [2]
