Davis scores 34 as Washington win his long-awaited debut

Anthony Davis scored 34 points and took 12 rebounds in his first Washington Wizards appearance, helping his new team beat Milwaukee 128-116. Davis finally takes the floor for Washington

Anthony Davis marked his Washington Wizards debut with 34 points and 12 rebounds in a 128-116 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. The American basketball club had acquired him from Dallas in February, but injury kept him out for the rest of last season. His first appearance for Washington came in the new season’s opening game, with Trae Young contributing 20 points and 13 assists.[1], [2]

Washington turn the game in the fourth quarter

Milwaukee led 93-90 after three quarters. Early in the fourth, a Deandre Ayton dunk put Washington ahead 97-96 during a 21-4 run that extended the advantage to 111-98. The Wizards had missed 18 of their first 22 three-point attempts, but shot 63 per cent from the field after halftime. They outscored Milwaukee 77-60 in the second half to complete the turnaround.[1]

Young joins Davis as Dybantsa misses the opener

Davis made 11 of his 20 shots and also recorded four assists and two steals. Young, acquired during the previous season, played his first regular-season minutes alongside him for Washington. The Wizards were without top draft pick AJ Dybantsa with an ankle injury. Tyler Herro scored 24 points and Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 22 for Milwaukee in Taylor Jenkins’ first game as Bucks head coach.[1]
