Ireland name November squad without Doris, Conan and Crowley

Ireland coach Andy Farrell named a 36-player November squad without injured captain Caelan Doris, Jack Conan and Jack Crowley. Dan Sheehan takes the captaincy, while uncapped Ulster players Jamie Benson and James McNabney are included. Jamison Gibson-Park also makes the squad despite a groin problem that has kept him out this season.

Sheehan leads Ireland in Doris’s absence

Ireland rugby coach Andy Farrell selected a 36-player squad for November’s Nations Championship matches against Argentina, Fiji and South Africa. Captain Caelan Doris, Jack Conan and Jack Crowley are absent through injury. Dan Sheehan leads the group, which includes uncapped Ulster players Jamie Benson and James McNabney. The squad contains 19 forwards and 17 backs.[1], [2]

Doris and Crowley continue their recovery

Doris is recovering from foot and knee problems, while fly-half Crowley has a vascular issue in his leg. Both are expected back in January. Conan injured his shoulder while playing for Irish club Leinster in the Champions Cup the previous weekend. The absences remove both Doris and Conan from the number eight position for the November fixtures.[1]

Gibson-Park is included as recovered players return

Jamison Gibson-Park is included despite not playing this season with a groin problem. Mack Hansen, Andrew Porter and Ryan Baird return after injury. New call-ups Benson and McNabney play for Irish provincial side Ulster as a fly-half and a back-row forward respectively. Other absentees through injury include Jack Boyle, Harry Byrne, Iain Henderson, Paddy McCarthy, Calvin Nash and Bryn Ward.[1]
