Inception changes cars while retaining its drivers
Inception Racing has announced a move to the Corvette Z06 GT3.R for the 2027 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the North American sports-car racing series. British outfit Optimum Motorsport operates the team’s No. 70 GTD entry. Brendan Iribe and Frederik Schandorff remain the full-season drivers, while Ollie Millroy joins them for Michelin Endurance Cup events. The agreement keeps the established three-driver lineup together for Inception’s fifth consecutive full IMSA season.[1], [2]
The programme grew from selected races to a first win
Inception made its IMSA debut at Petit Le Mans in 2021, entered selected races in 2022 and began a full-time programme in 2023. Its first series victory came at the six-hour Battle on the Bricks race in Indianapolis in 2025. This season’s best finish was third at Virginia International Raceway. Iribe won the Bob Akin Award in 2023, earning an invitation to the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours, where Inception subsequently took LMGT3 pole position.[1]
Leinders points to the team’s established partnership
Sporting director Bas Leinders welcomed the Corvette move and said the team was building relationships with General Motors and Pratt Miller. Corvette Racing programme manager Andrea Hidalgo also welcomed Inception. Leinders traced the team’s beginnings to Millroy and Iribe coming together around the end of 2019 and the start of 2020, initially racing in GT Open and other championships. He highlighted the working relationship between Millroy, Iribe and Schandorff as the team prepares its new programme.[1]
