Sociedad matches its largest European win
Spanish football club Real Sociedad beat Lillestrøm SK 6-0 in Norway for its first UEFA Europa League victory of the season. Sergio Gómez and Luka Sučić each scored twice, with Óskarsson and Zakharyan adding the other goals. The result equalled Sociedad’s largest European winning margin, previously achieved against Vardar in 2017. The visitors scored three goals in each half.[1], [2]
Oyarzabal supplies all three first-half assists
Lillestrøm created early attacking opportunities before Sociedad established control of the score. Captain Mikel Oyarzabal supplied every assist in the first-half scoring burst. Gómez finished with his left foot in the 25th minute and his right foot two minutes later. Sučić added a left-footed goal in the 33rd minute. Sociedad took a 3-0 lead into the interval, with Oyarzabal having set up both of Gómez’s goals as well as Sučić’s opener.[1]
Marrero saves a penalty before three more goals
Marrero saved a penalty early in the second half and another Lillestrøm effort struck the crossbar. The hosts could not reduce the deficit. Óskarsson finished a counterattack from Guedes’ pass in the 65th minute. Sučić scored his second after an individual move in the 72nd, and Zakharyan completed the scoring with a left-footed shot from outside the penalty area in the 80th. Coach Matarazzo’s side left Norway with three points and a clean sheet.[1]
