Pierson takes the No. 4 Chevrolet
American driver Josh Pierson will make his IndyCar debut with AJ Foyt Racing in 2027 under a multiyear agreement. He moves up from Indy NXT, the development series below IndyCar. Pierson will drive the team's No. 4 Chevrolet alongside Dennis Hauger in its two-car lineup.[1], [2]
Hauger will race the No. 14. A sponsor for Pierson's No. 4 car has not yet been disclosed. Pierson said he was looking forward to his first IndyCar start at St. Pete.[1]
Laguna Seca victory capped a strong finish
Pierson led more laps than any other driver during the 2026 Indy NXT season. He started on the front row in all three final races, with two pole positions. At Milwaukee he broke a qualifying mark previously held by Hauger. At Laguna Seca he started first, led every lap and won.[1]
Endurance experience preceded IndyCar tests
His experience also includes endurance racing: at 16, he became the youngest driver to start the Le Mans 24 Hours. His preparation with Foyt included several Panoz DP01 tests alongside current IndyCar drivers and a Chevrolet-powered IndyCar test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. The team's 2027 season marks the fiftieth anniversary since A.J. Foyt's fourth Indianapolis 500 win.[1]
