The second Extreme H World Cup has been postponed until 2027, removing the hydrogen-powered competition from its planned 29–31 October dates in Saudi Arabia. October dates withdrawn
The second Extreme H World Cup will take place in 2027 after organisers postponed the planned 29–31 October event in Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia. The International Automobile Federation (FIA), the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) and Extreme H confirmed the change on 26 October. A new day or month has not yet been announced for the competition.[1], [2]
Organisers cite preparation problems
Organisers attributed the postponement to logistical and operational challenges affecting the preparations needed to deliver the event. The FIA and Extreme H said they remained committed to working with their partners in Saudi Arabia on the second edition, and thanked those partners for their continued cooperation. Specialist publication 131 Off-Road linked the postponement to the war in the Middle East.[1], [2]
A hydrogen competition born in 2025
The World Cup was established in 2025 as the Extreme E series evolved into a hydrogen-powered competition. International teams and drivers compete in Pioneer 25 racing cars, which were built specifically for the series and use hydrogen fuel cells. The first World Cup was also held in Qiddiya City. Jameel Motorsport won that inaugural edition.[1], [2]
