Garner and Hackney score before the break

James Garner opened the scoring with a curling shot from outside the penalty area. Tyrique George’s pressure had forced a turnover, and Hayden Hackney helped the ball on. Hackney then finished Thierno Barry’s cross to make it 2–0. It was his first Everton goal on his third start following his summer arrival from Middlesbrough.[1]

Barry adds the third after Newcastle make changes

Newcastle introduced Yoane Wissa, Joelinton and Anthony Elanga at halftime. Everton nevertheless found a third goal with 21 minutes remaining: Dewsbury-Hall advanced on the left and passed to Barry, who controlled and finished high into the net. Dan Burn later headed Newcastle’s consolation. Everton’s next league match is also against Newcastle, away on Monday.[1]
