Haas brings Câmara’s debut forward as Ocon’s season ends

Haas has confirmed that Esteban Ocon will not race for the team again this season, with Rafael Câmara taking his place at the São Paulo Grand Prix. The Brazilian will make his Formula 1 race debut at home alongside Ollie Bearman. Ryō Hirakawa, who replaced Ocon in Mexico, has an endurance-racing commitment in Italy that weekend. Câmara takes the São Paulo seat

Rafael Câmara will drive for Haas at the São Paulo Grand Prix alongside Ollie Bearman. The American-owned Formula 1 team confirmed that Esteban Ocon will not return to its race seat this season.[1], [2]

The Brazilian leads the Formula 2 championship and is a member of Ferrari’s driver academy. He will make his Formula 1 race debut at his home event. Haas had already signed him to replace Ocon for the 2027 season, bringing that planned change forward for the Brazilian race.[1]

Hirakawa has a race in Italy

Ocon had been replaced by driver Ryō Hirakawa from Saturday during the Mexican Grand Prix weekend. Hirakawa is unavailable for Brazil because he has a World Endurance Championship commitment in Italy on the same weekend. He finished tenth in Mexico after post-race penalties, earning a point on his Formula 1 debut.[1]

Three later races await a driver decision

Team principal Ayao Komatsu said the matter involving Ocon would be handled internally; Haas gave no detailed public explanation. The team had announced the previous month that the Frenchman would leave after two years. São Paulo will be followed by Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, and Haas has not yet announced who will drive its second car at those three races.[1]
