Brighton win in Spain

English club Brighton & Hove Albion took a 1-0 away victory over Spain’s Getafe on the third Conference League matchday. The match at the Estadio Coliseum on November 5 left the home side still looking for their first win in the competition.[1], [2]

Malick Yalcouye provided the decisive header in the sixty-fourth minute after Costinha headed the ball across. Brighton had already twice struck the woodwork through Jaouen Hadjam. His first effort went through goalkeeper Soria’s legs and hit the post; after the interval, he found space inside the area and curled another shot against the bar.[1]

Verbruggen protects Brighton’s goal

Bart Verbruggen denied Ivan Azon in the first half when Getafe threatened to go ahead. Brighton later missed a chance to add a second goal through Ibrahim Osman, who failed to finish from close range. Manager Fabian Hürzeler had changed five starters after the 1-0 win over Manchester City before sending his team out against Getafe.[1]

Three European games without conceding

Brighton reached seven points with two wins and a draw. They had beaten Kauno Zalgiris 4-0 and drawn 0-0 with Jablonec, keeping a clean sheet in each of their first three matches. Hürzeler praised his players’ patience against Getafe’s deep defence. He said it was not their best display, but felt they deserved to win. Three league-phase fixtures remained.[1]
