Celtic take their first points

Celtic overcame Beşiktaş 3-2 at Parkhead in Scotland on the fourth Europa League matchday. Camilo Duran’s 87th-minute goal decided the match after the Turkish visitors had equalised late. The victory brought Celtic their first points of the league phase.[1], [2]

The first half ended goalless. Benjamin Nygren missed an early opportunity for Celtic, Cameron Carter-Vickers blocked Leandro Trossard at the other end and Kasper Hogh was unable to convert another home chance. After the break, Beşiktaş took the lead through Junior Olaitan. Sam Johnstone saved his penalty, but Olaitan converted the rebound.[1]

O’Neill’s substitutes reverse the score

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill introduced Callum Osmand, Duran and Colby Donovan shortly after the hour. Osmand equalised with his first touch. He later found Duran, who went around goalkeeper Alexander Nübel to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. Nübel had also kept out a deflected Liam Scales header as Celtic pressed after falling behind.[1]

Kökçü’s equaliser lasts only briefly

Orkun Kökçü restored parity with a long-range strike in the eighty-fifth minute. Kieran Tierney supplied Duran for the winning goal. Duran finished with two goals, while Osmand contributed the other goal and an assist. Celtic had lost their opening three Europa League fixtures; four league-phase matches remained after the win over Beşiktaş.[1]
