Friday review opens another return attempt

Aprilia rider Jorge Martin has received medical clearance to attempt a return at the Qatar round of MotoGP, the premier motorcycle road-racing championship. The Friday review follows an initial decision allowing him to take part in first practice. Participation beyond that opening session remains subject to the championship’s medical assessment as he recovers from a right forearm injury.[1], [2]

The Australian fracture interrupted his season

Martin fractured the radius in his right forearm during the sprint at Australia’s Phillip Island circuit two weeks earlier. He tried to return at Sepang in Malaysia the following weekend, but withdrew after practice. Aprilia said the review required under the new medical protocol had been completed and that he remained fit from the Malaysian Grand Prix.[1]

Martin reports improvement in his wrist

The rider said his bone was still broken but his wrist felt better. He put its fitness at 50 per cent, compared with 20 per cent previously, and hoped the improvement would allow him to complete the weekend. Those figures were his own assessment. The calendar still included Portimao and Valencia after Qatar, with Martin’s championship contest against Marc Marquez continuing.[1]
