OpenAI began testing sponsored agents on ChatGPT ads

OpenAI said it is testing Sponsored Agents with select US advertisers. After an ad click, a labeled business-sponsored agent opens a separate conversation. The Register wrote that those bots try to sell, and that an Ads Manager plugin lets advertisers write campaigns in plain language.

Separate chat

OpenAI wrote that it added a ChatGPT ads layer. After a relevant ad, a person can start a clearly labeled conversation with a business-sponsored agent. That conversation is separate from ChatGPT’s independent answers and from the original chat. The test is limited to select advertisers in the United States. OpenAI stressed that the sponsored conversation stays separate from independent answers.[1], [2]

Sales talk

The Register wrote that OpenAI has begun testing Sponsored Agents, advertiser-backed bots in ChatGPT ads, with select US advertisers. After seeing a relevant ad a user can choose a clearly labeled conversation, ask follow-up questions, and follow a link to the business website. Advertisers can create and update campaigns in plain language inside ChatGPT with an Ads Manager plugin. The Register wrote that a user can follow through to the business website.[1], [2]

Scope

OpenAI wrote that HubSpot and US Shopify merchants can connect ChatGPT Ads today. The Register repeated that the new agent type opens a sales conversation after an ad click. Both accounts say the test runs with select US advertisers. The test does not cover every country or every advertiser.[1], [2]
