GitHub finished moving Copilot's runtime into production Rust

GitHub says the Copilot agent runtime finished a TypeScript-to-Rust port on 21 August: 832,378 production lines across 128 pull requests. No independent newsroom published a same-week account of that engineering post.

The cutover date is 21 August

On 16 September GitHub published how it rebuilt the coding assistant's engine in compiled Rust. The switch was complete on 21 August: 832,378 production lines, 468,689 Rust unit-test lines, and 174,675 TypeScript end-to-end tests still sitting beside them. A second SDK repo added about 130,000 more end-to-end tests. The work ended 21 August; the public note is 16 September.[1]

The port rode Copilot itself

GitHub says the rewrite arrived on main as 128 separate requests, with its own assistant product doing much of the translation. In about fourteen and a half weeks main shipped 135 releases: 100 pre-release cuts and 35 stable cuts, roughly 1.3 a day. The company presents that pace as a way to keep faults small enough to debug in already shipped builds rather than in one cutover.[1]

The audit is still GitHub's

Who typed the port remains GitHub's own story; the post does not point to an outside review. Independent publishers were checked for a same-event report of this runtime move. The Register URL for a 16 September Copilot Rust story returned 404. WebAiRadar's Copilot CLI Rust note is dated 29 August and covers the command-line tool, not this 16 September 832,378-line post. PulseAugur republished the GitHub blog without original reporting.[1]
