Chungbuk plans hospital-linked testing for pathology AI
South Korea’s Chungbuk Institute of Science and Technology Innovation has been selected for a programme to validate AI in real operating conditions. Digital pathology will be the first focus, with separate systems at the institute and Asan Medical Center. The project runs through December 2027 and includes data preparation, trials and support for overseas adaptation and commercialization.

A national programme selects Chungbuk’s institute
The Chungbuk Institute of Science and Technology Innovation in South Korea announced on October 25 that it had been selected for AHAP, an Asia-Pacific AI special-district programme run by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency. The project will build infrastructure for testing AI in actual operating conditions, beginning with biotechnology. The institute will lead work involving Chungbuk National University, Asan Medical Center in Seoul and Sysone.[1], [2]
Two pathology systems will support AI trials
Digital pathology converts tissue and cell specimens into images that can be analyzed on computers. Separate systems will be installed at the institute and the hospital. Clinical and nonclinical data will support tests of AI performance and practical applicability in pathology interpretation and nonclinical safety assessment. The project’s 2.464 billion won budget includes 2.3 billion won of national funding and 164 million won in private contributions.[1]
Trials and overseas adaptation run through 2027
The programme runs until December 2027. In the first year, participants plan to prepare infrastructure and data and begin domestic and overseas trials. The second year will expand company and institutional participation and support commercialization of the results. Planned overseas validation and adaptation include the United States, Australia, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia, with testing tailored to local medical and biotechnology conditions.[1]
