Alexa adds conversational controls for subscriptions and deliveries

Amazon has expanded Alexa for Shopping with actions that let customers edit lists, manage recurring orders and change delivery instructions through conversation. The additions cover tasks after a purchase as well as preparation for shopping. Customers can skip or pause Subscribe & Save deliveries and ask about refunds, alongside the assistant’s existing product-comparison and price-tracking functions.

Lists and recurring orders gain controls

Amazon has added shopping actions to Alexa for Shopping, its conversational shopping assistant. Customers can create or edit grocery lists and baby or wedding registries, move items between lists and ask which registry items remain. The additions extend the assistant into list management, subscriptions and delivery instructions, allowing customers to request those changes through conversation.[1], [2]

Subscribe & Save, Amazon’s recurring-delivery programme, now supports requests to skip the next shipment, pause a subscription or change its frequency. A customer can, for example, move a delivery from every month to every three months.[1]

Delivery and refund questions

Customers can change account-level delivery instructions or add details for a particular address. Payment-related questions cover unfamiliar charges, gift-card balances and refund status. The assistant can also answer questions about Prime benefits and an Audible subscription’s renewal date. Amazon says the new actions are available to its US customers through the shopping app and desktop shopping page.[1]

Earlier shopping tools remain in place

Product comparison, checking up to a year of price history, tracking price drops and automatically buying at a target price were already available. The update adds account and post-purchase tasks to those earlier tools. Amazon’s conversational-shopping vice president Rajiv Mehta describes the aim as handling more stages of shopping through conversation.[1]
