HD Hyundai links AI robot-program analysis with engineers’ judgment

HD Hyundai Robotics has detailed a workflow with Palantir in which AI examines existing robot programs and engineers refine the proposed changes. The companies aim to combine software analysis, simulation and practical experience, while expanding engineers’ work toward defining factory problems and developing solutions. Managers plan regular meetings to choose further industrial applications.

Robot programs enter a shared workflow

HD Hyundai Robotics, the South Korean industrial-robot company, is working with US software company Palantir to connect AI analysis of robot programs with simulation and engineers’ practical judgment. The company described the collaboration on November 1 after its technology chief Ahn Sung-hwan presented the work at Palantir’s Sovereignty Bootcamp in New York. The project focuses on how people prepare and improve programs used by robots in industrial settings. The bootcamp brings executives together to discuss protecting business information while adopting AI. Since its first meeting in July, the event has held three sessions attended by approximately 450 executives from 250 organizations and companies.[1], [2]

Engineers refine the proposals

The starting point is an existing robot program. An AI agent, software that carries out assigned tasks, examines the program and proposes improvements. Engineers then refine those proposals using their knowledge of the factory. The companies describe AI, simulation and human judgment as parts of the same process. The arrangement keeps engineers involved in adapting proposed changes to working conditions rather than ending the process with an automatically generated suggestion. Previously, experienced engineers repeatedly adjusted movement paths, task sequences and speeds while watching robots operate. MoneyToday describes that reliance on individual experience as an obstacle to standardizing the work.[2], [1]

A wider role on the factory floor

HD Hyundai Robotics plans to develop its engineers into on-site solution specialists. Alongside programming, installation and commissioning, their work would include defining problems and implementing solutions using AI. The partners began introducing agents into problem-solving work in August. They intend to hold regular steering-committee meetings with senior managers to set priorities and select applications with tangible industrial results. Palantir chief revenue officer Ryan Taylor said cooperation is beginning with tasks capable of producing measurable results over a short period. He also described plans to connect HD Hyundai Robotics’ robots with Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform. The stated direction is to extend the collaboration into further factory problems selected by the two companies.[1], [2]
