Paisley cancels Saturday Halloween programme as storm approaches

Paisley cancelled its Saturday Halloween Festival programme, including the evening parade, amid Storm Boelo forecasts. The Friday events had gone ahead. Renfrewshire Council cited public safety as severe weather approached western Scotland, and people with paid grandstand seats are to receive refunds and direct email notification of the change.

Saturday’s parade was called off

Paisley, a town in Scotland’s Renfrewshire area, cancelled its Saturday, October 24 Halloween Festival programme amid Storm Boelo forecasts. The cancellation included the evening parade. Friday’s festivities had gone ahead, so the decision removed the second day of the two-day event rather than cancelling the entire festival retrospectively.[1], [2]

Severe weather forecast prompted the safety decision

Lucy Adamson, Renfrewshire Council’s head of marketing, communications and events, cited public safety in explaining the cancellation. An amber warning for strong winds covered the evening. The Met Office, the UK weather service, had issued yellow and amber warnings across western Scotland, with heavy rain also forecast. Adamson thanked Friday’s visitors, volunteers, community participants and partners.[1]

Grandstand ticket holders will receive refunds

People who bought grandstand seats are to receive refunds and direct contact by email. The Haunted House-themed programme had included street theatre, live performances, illuminated installations and a community parade through the town centre. The planned parade route took approximately 60 minutes. Announced performers included Spark! LED Drummers, Uncle Doom and his Organ of Gloom, and Granny Turismo.[1]
