Savage remains an executive producer
Ben Wheatley is taking over as director of Molepeople, an upcoming horror film, after filmmaker Rob Savage left, citing scheduling conflicts. Actor LaKeith Stanfield, previously announced as its star, has also exited. Savage will remain an executive producer. The project was announced earlier this month at New York Comic-Con, the comics and entertainment convention, during a presentation by production company Blumhouse Atomic Monster.[1], [2]
The tunnel story has a 2027 release date
Screenwriter Nathan Elston wrote the story of a man entering abandoned tunnels beneath New York City and encountering a society living below its streets. Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount Primal are jointly financing and producing the film. Film studio Paramount will handle worldwide distribution. The announced cinema release is August 27, 2027, with Jason Blum, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules and James Harris among the producers.[1]
Wheatley follows Normal with the project
Wheatley’s latest film, the action thriller Normal, starred actor Bob Odenkirk and was written by screenwriter Derek Kolstad. It played in the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness programme before its April cinema release. Wheatley began his feature career with Down Terrace in 2009. His subsequent film Kill List received six British Independent Film Award nominations, including for directing and screenplay.[1]
