Off It introduces the third album
The Chats, the punk trio from Australia’s Sunshine Coast, has announced Half Cut for March 5, 2027. The album follows Get Fucked, released in 2022. Its opening track Off It is already out, accompanied by a video directed by Matt Weston. The new album was recorded at Maple Sound Studio in Los Angeles with Jay Whalley, a member of Australian punk band Frenzal Rhomb.[1], [2]
Sandwith describes a more open album
Singer Eamon Sandwith described the music as a somewhat more open version of the band’s rock and roll. He resisted calling the change maturity, instead describing a progression from its earlier work. The 14-song sequence includes Brown Bottle Flu, Hanging Shit and Half Arsed near the beginning, with Prove You Wrong and Should Know Better closing it.[2]
Australian shows begin before the album arrives
A 17-show Australian itinerary starts with two nights at Brisbane’s Crowbar on November 13 and 14. The band will also play three nights at Crowbar in Sydney and three at The Tote in Melbourne. The run reaches Hobart, Forth, Launceston and Adelaide before its final concerts at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel on December 12 and 13. The Chats first attracted international attention with Smoko in 2017, later appearing alongside Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters and The Hives.[1]
