Kevin Morby gives Nursery Rhyme proceeds to gun violence prevention

Kevin Morby has released a Bandcamp-only song featuring Lonnie Holley, with download proceeds going to Everytown for Gun Safety. The musician says he chose a release listeners would deliberately seek out because the track addresses gun violence against children. Recorded in summer 2025, it also features French band Petite-Vallée and saxophonist Cochemea Gastelum.

Downloads will support Everytown

Musician Kevin Morby has released Nursery Rhyme with artist and singer Lonnie Holley. The roughly six-minute song is available exclusively through Bandcamp, the online music platform, as a download for which listeners choose the amount they pay. All proceeds will go to Everytown for Gun Safety, a US organization working to prevent gun violence. The release deals with gun violence against children.[1], [2]

Morby describes his release decision

Morby said he had hesitated to put the recording out after making it in summer 2025. He wanted listeners to seek it out willingly rather than encounter its disturbing subject unexpectedly through an algorithm. In his statement, he also said becoming a father had changed how he felt about the suffering of parents and children. He viewed the song as a less optimistic successor to Beautiful Strangers, his 2016 response to violence.[1]

A studio visit became the recording

The session began when Morby visited Sam Cohen’s studio while the French band Petite-Vallée was working there. Its members became his backing musicians for the song, and saxophonist Cochemea Gastelum added his part later. Holley enters after Morby’s singing ends. Morby said he wanted Holley’s contribution to bring wisdom and hope into the final part of the recording.[1]
