Finn stays as producer
The horror franchise Smile is changing its creative leadership for its third film. Film studio Paramount has appointed director David Bruckner and screenwriter Nick Antosca, while series creator Parker Finn remains a producer. Finn proposed the framework for the new installment after writing and directing both earlier films. He will produce alongside the production company Temple Hill Entertainment.[1], [2]
A new team with horror credits
Bruckner directed the Hellraiser reboot, the psychological thriller The Ritual and the supernatural horror film The Night House. Antosca’s work includes the Cape Fear miniseries, co-creating the series The Act and writing the films Antlers and Verity. The third Smile film’s plot and cast have not been disclosed. The previous installments told separate stories with different leading performers.[1]
The series passed 350 million dollars worldwide
The original Smile was initially commissioned for streaming before receiving a cinema release. It earned 217 million dollars worldwide, and the franchise’s combined global box office has exceeded 350 million dollars. Finn subsequently signed an agreement giving Paramount the first opportunity to consider his projects. He continues working with the studio as the third film moves to its new director and writer.[1]
