Gaza solidarity marches bring protesters onto European streets

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched in European cities on 10 October to mark three years of war in Gaza. London participants demanded an end to British arms sales to Israel and further sanctions. More than 10,000 people joined the Dublin demonstration, according to RTÉ. Marches and counterdemonstrations also took place elsewhere; attendance figures come from organisers and named local broadcasters rather than a common independent count.

London marchers demand an end to arms sales

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched across European cities on Saturday to mark three years of war in Gaza. London participants carried Palestinian flags and demanded that the British government stop selling arms to Israel and impose further sanctions. The Palestine Solidarity Campaign, which organised the London action, claimed attendance exceeded 250,000. That estimate was not independently verified.[1]

Dublin march draws more than 10,000

More than 10,000 people joined the Dublin demonstration, according to Irish public broadcaster RTÉ. It was the 21st nationwide march since October 2023, supported by more than 160 civil society groups. The Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign organised a route from the Garden of Remembrance to the Dáil, Ireland’s parliament, for the concluding rally.[1], [2]

Police restrictions and counterprotests accompany the marches

London police restricted the march to limit serious disruption to surrounding communities. Police official Carl Galvin said people deliberately hiding their identity with face coverings in the protest area could be required to remove them. The Stop the Hate group held a counterprotest near police headquarters. Berlin also saw a pro-Palestinian gathering outside the Chancellery and a nearby counterdemonstration carrying Israeli flags.[1]

Italian media reported demonstrations in approximately 50 cities, including Rome, Milan, Turin and Naples. Attendance estimates across the European actions came from organisers or named local broadcasters. There was no common independent count for all the cities.[1]
