Sharif seeks help to expand service centres

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for help expanding a public-service-centre model to other regions of Pakistan during their Saturday telephone call. Azerbaijan’s presidency said Aliyev agreed to provide support. The leaders reviewed Islamabad’s Asaan Khidmat Centre, which draws on Azerbaijan’s ASAN Khidmet system for making government services easier for citizens to access.[1], [3]

The call also addresses trade and investment

Sharif and Aliyev discussed closer economic, trade and investment cooperation, and welcomed progress concerning Islamabad’s service centre. They described stronger commercial partnerships as a way to extend their bilateral political relationship. According to Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif characterised the strategic partnership through mutual trust and support on matters of core national interest.[1], [2]

The Pakistani account said Aliyev offered technical expertise for extending the service-centre initiative. Sharif thanked him for the support and described it as an expression of friendship between the countries.[1]

Regional consultations remain on the agenda

The leaders also discussed regional and international developments and maintaining close consultations. Sharif outlined Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue, mediation and de-escalation. The official accounts said Aliyev welcomed those efforts. Their previous telephone conversation in May had addressed regional developments and efforts to restore peace in the Middle East; the public-service-centre request now accompanied the wider bilateral discussion.[1], [3]
