The price written on the text

Donald Trump said at the White House on Saturday that he was rejecting Iran's proposal. A day earlier Abbas Araghchi had said the Strait of Hormuz could reopen to commercial shipping within 7 days if the necessary conditions were met. The conditions Al Jazeera reported are an end to the naval blockade of Iranian ports, a waiver on sanctions against Iranian oil sales, release of an estimated 12 billion dollars in frozen assets, and a ceasefire that also covers Lebanon and Yemen. The BBC summarised the June memorandum as 14 points. The price of reopening is the deletion of the embargo and blockade lines. A sailing calendar is absent from the centre of the text.[1]

The text settles who may invoice a cargo before it settles which day the cargo sails. If the oil waiver lands, an Iranian barrel can return to a legal invoice. If the blockade ends, the port stops being a gate separate from the strait. Another reading still stands. The binding lock may be the ceasefire that also covers Lebanon and Yemen, with the 12 billion dollars and the waiver riding along as annexes. The package Trump called unacceptable is then larger than a freight discount.[1]

18 transits a day

Kpler's count, which the BBC reported via Reuters, is about 18 transits a day over the last 10 days, and 9 vessels on some days. The war began in February. Before it, about 1 in 5 of the world's usual oil and gas supply used this water. Trump claimed the United States has total control and that massive amounts of oil are passing. Pezeshkian said the United States closed the routes first. Both sentences are party claims. The count is a transit tally. This report does not break it down by barrel or flag.[1]

The rejection leaves that thin flow where it is. If a waiver is written, the first thing that changes is the legal text. The 18 transits are a leak that is still moving. The other reading stays open. Kpler's summary does not say how many of those 18 ships carried commercial oil. The average may be narrower than the massive flow Trump described. Until that split is closed, the cost of the rejection is an unwritten waiver.[1]
