Surgery follows the Barcelona injury

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the Georgia winger at French club Paris Saint-Germain, has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will undergo surgery in the coming days. The club confirmed the diagnosis on Wednesday after he was injured against Barcelona in Tuesday’s Champions League match.[1], [2]

The injury affected his right knee. Around the hour mark, a challenge involving Barcelona’s Espart left Kvaratskhelia on the ground calling for medical help. He needed assistance to leave the pitch.[2]

PSG has not set a return date

PSG did not announce a return date or a detailed rehabilitation timetable for Kvaratskhelia. The 25-year-old captains Georgia’s national team. He joined the Paris club from Napoli in January 2025, was named the Champions League’s best player last season and was among the Ballon d’Or nominees.[1]

Kvaratskhelia thanks supporters after diagnosis

In an Instagram statement, Kvaratskhelia described his distress and said he had felt exceptionally well prepared for the match. He thanked people supporting him and said he would work towards a stronger return. The same PSG medical update said Ousmane Dembélé and captain Marquinhos would receive treatment over the coming weeks for thigh injuries.[1]
