Slavia overturns an early Fenerbahçe lead

Slavia Praha’s under-19 football team won 3-1 away to Fenerbahçe in Istanbul on 20 October. The Czech side has nine points from three matches in the UEFA Youth League, the youth club football competition. Fenerbahçe’s early lead did not prevent Slavia from maintaining its perfect start.[1], [2]

Ekici scored in the eighth minute after Slavia lost the ball in midfield. Fenerbahçe moved quickly behind the defence and finished past the goalkeeper. Ondřej Mašek equalised in the 16th minute after intercepting the hosts’ passing move.[1]

Potměšil and Belžík complete the comeback

Six minutes after the equaliser, Petr Potměšil converted Vít Skokan’s delivery to give Slavia a 2-1 half-time lead. Karel Belžík added the third in the 72nd minute. A move through Kočvara and Szywala reached Palaščák, whose cross found Belžík at the far post. His bouncing volley went over goalkeeper Sapaz.[1]

Arsenal awaits after Slavia’s third win

Slavia had another goal ruled out for offside in the 75th minute, and an offside decision stopped a further attack a minute later. Fenerbahçe could not score from a late corner, while Cedergren shot wide in added time. Slavia’s next Youth League match is at home to Arsenal.[1]
