Marco Bezzecchi set the fastest time in Friday practice for the Australian MotoGP round, with Aprilia riders taking four of the top five places. Raul Fernandez finished second and Marc Marquez third. Aprilia takes four of the first five places

Marco Bezzecchi topped Friday practice for the Australian round of MotoGP, the premier motorcycle racing championship. Aprilia riders filled four of the top five places at Phillip Island in Australia, with Raul Fernandez second, Marc Marquez third, Ai Ogura fourth and Jorge Martin fifth.[1], [2]

Fernandez finished less than a tenth of a second behind him.[1]

Debris and a wallaby stop the session

Practice was stopped twice by red flags. Contact between Alex Marquez and Bezzecchi at the fourth corner left debris on the track. A wallaby, a small member of the kangaroo family, was on the track before the second stoppage. Jack Miller crashed at the sixth corner after also falling at the first corner in the opening free practice session.[1]

Bagnaia and Quartararo miss direct qualifying passage

The first 10 riders advanced directly to the second qualifying session. Johann Zarco was 11th and Miller 12th. Francesco Bagnaia, Fabio Quartararo and Brad Binder also finished outside the direct-entry places. Their route to the second session runs through the opening qualifying phase; Friday’s classification left the race grid undecided.[1]
