Olaitan rescues Beşiktaş after Palace’s four-minute turnaround

Beşiktaş drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace in Istanbul after substitute Junior Olaitan cancelled out the visitors’ second-half turnaround. Wilfred Ndidi had put the hosts ahead, before Yeremy Pino and Jean-Philippe Mateta scored four minutes apart. Beşiktaş then protected the draw despite Umit Akdag’s dismissal in the closing stages.

Olaitan restores parity in Istanbul

Beşiktaş and Crystal Palace drew 2-2 in Istanbul in the Europa League.[1], [2]

Substitute Junior Olaitan scored the home side’s equaliser in the 73rd minute after Palace had overturned a half-time deficit. Beşiktaş completed the match with fewer players following a late dismissal but held on to the draw.[1]

The hosts had gone ahead through Wilfred Ndidi before the interval. His finish came from Beşiktaş’s first shot on target of the half. Palace had already seen an early Jean-Philippe Mateta goal ruled out for offside.[1]

Palace scores twice in four minutes

Yeremy Pino equalised in the 51st minute after Khalaili’s cutback. The goal was initially disallowed, but a video assistant referee review overturned the offside decision. Four minutes later Mateta intercepted a loose back-pass and drove his shot into the roof of the net to put Palace 2-1 ahead. Olaitan’s later intervention cancelled out that advantage.[1]

Sage regrets lapses after taking the lead

Palace manager Pierre Sage said he was pleased with the performance but disappointed by the result. He pointed to lost concentration when his side conceded just before half-time and again after moving 2-1 ahead. The Beşiktaş defender’s challenge on Jorgen Strand Larsen brought the late dismissal; the Palace forward also had an injury problem near the end.[1]
