Blakely takes gold in Rotterdam

American gymnast Skye Blakely won the women’s all-around title at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The victory gave her an individual world gold medal after previous success in team competitions.[1], [2]

Blakely finished with fifty-five point seven three three points across four apparatus on her fourth appearance at the championships. She had previously collected three world team medals. This was her first individual medal at the event.[1]

Bars and beam sustain her lead

Blakely began on vault with fourteen point two points, followed by fourteen point four on uneven bars. She then earned fourteen point two on balance beam and completed her competition with twelve point nine three three on floor exercise. She represents the University of Florida and comes from Frisco, Texas.[1]

Pease finishes seventh as Americans extend medal run

Russian gymnast Liudmila Roschina took silver and China’s Qinqin Ke won bronze. Fellow American Claire Pease finished seventh. Pease had the final’s highest floor exercise score. Both Americans had also won team silver at these championships.[1]

Blakely’s gold continued the American women’s world all-around medal sequence that began at the 2003 championships in Anaheim, California. USA Gymnastics described it as a 23-year run.[1]
