Middlesbrough score five away from home

Middlesbrough beat Bolton Wanderers 5-1 away in England’s second-tier Championship and moved provisionally to the top of the table. Will Lankshear scored twice. Kim Hellberg’s visitors had lost only once during the season, while the result ended Bolton’s three-match unbeaten sequence.[1], [2]

Steven Schumacher had made four changes to Bolton’s starting side after away trips to Wolves and Southampton brought four points. Ruben Rodrigues threatened early, but Radek Vitek saved his finish. Middlesbrough then went ahead through Aidan Morris, who met a cross from former Bolton loanee Amario Cozier-Duberry.[1]

Bair reduces the deficit before the interval

Gavin Bazunu denied both Cozier-Duberry and Lankshear before Tommy Conway supplied Lankshear’s first goal. Middlesbrough added a third after a corner. Bolton replied in first-half stoppage time when Gaizka Larrazabal found Thelonius Bair, whose low finish made it 3-1. Bair had scored in consecutive home games.[1]

Late finishes widen the margin

Bolton made two half-time substitutions and Kyliane Dong immediately forced Vitek into another save. Bazunu stopped further attempts from Lankshear and Conway. Cozier-Duberry later fired into the roof of the net, before Lankshear converted Riley McGree’s pass. The match drew 26,257 spectators, including 5,206 away supporters.[1]
