Žalgiris hits 18 threes in home win over ASVEL

Žalgiris Kaunas made 18 three-pointers and beat ASVEL 105-85 in the EuroLeague. The hosts built a 50-34 half-time lead and extended it through the third quarter. Carsen Edwards led their scoring with 16 points, while Jonas Valančiūnas added 15 points and eight rebounds. The victory moved Žalgiris to three wins and four defeats.

Žalgiris wins in Kaunas

Žalgiris Kaunas beat ASVEL 105-85 at home in the EuroLeague. The Lithuanian side led at the end of the first three quarters and passed the 100-point mark before the finish. The result gave Žalgiris its third win in seven games, while ASVEL remained on two victories.[1], [2]

The hosts made 18 three-pointers. Carsen Edwards scored 16 points, ahead of Jonas Valančiūnas with 15 and Ąžuolas Tubelis with 14. Saben Lee added 12 points and Sterling Brown 11, leaving five Žalgiris players in double figures. Valančiūnas also collected eight rebounds.[1]

A sixteen-point half-time lead

ASVEL answered an early 9-2 deficit with three three-pointers to tie it at 11-11. Žalgiris regained the advantage and ended the first quarter 29-20 ahead. Threes from Edgaras Ulanovas and Arnas Butkevičius helped extend the gap in the second. Lee’s pass for a Valančiūnas dunk completed a 50-34 half-time score, a 16-point lead.[1]

The third quarter widens the gap

Maodo Lo had a nine-point spell including two threes in the third quarter, which ended 81-59. ASVEL took the last period 26-24 without overturning the lead. Edwards’s late three took Žalgiris to 100 points and Ulanovas supplied its 18th three. Lee finished with seven assists and Lo with six; Hugo Besson led ASVEL with 13 points.[1]
