Rangers win with a Kelsy double

Rangers beat St Johnstone 4-0 at Ibrox in Glasgow, Scotland, with Kevin Kelsy scoring twice on his return to the starting side. Ryan Naderi and substitute Tochi Chukwuani supplied the other goals. The victory brought Rangers within one point of Celtic at the Scottish Premiership summit. St Johnstone finished with ten players after Kai Fotheringham was sent off in the second half.[1], [2]

Naderi and Kelsy extend the lead

Minsu Kim released Naderi, who squared the ball for Kelsy to finish from close range and give Rangers their halftime lead. St Johnstone made three changes at the interval and began the second half more strongly. Rangers nevertheless scored next, Naderi bundling in after Toby Steward spilled Kim’s shot. Kelsy then turned an Emmanuel Fernandez header into the net at the back post. Kim had also hit the post earlier in the match.[1]

Chukwuani completes the scoring

Fotheringham received a straight red card in the 74th minute after catching Raskin on the follow-through; the referee reviewed the incident before dismissing him. Chukwuani later finished Djeidi Gassama’s cutback for the fourth goal. Rangers reached 23 points from ten matches, compared with Celtic’s 24 from nine. Rangers manager Derek McInnes said his team had played better before halftime despite scoring only once, then added three goals in a less polished second half.[1]
