Antunes wins possession for both goals
Göztepe beat Çorum FK 2-0 at Gürsel Aksel Stadium in İzmir, Turkey, in the ninth round of the Süper Lig. Alexis Antunes put the hosts ahead in the third minute after intercepting goalkeeper Felipe’s attempted pass to his defence. The same player won possession again before the second goal in the 38th minute. This time he passed to Juan, who finished when through against the goalkeeper. Göztepe took that advantage into half-time.[1], [2]
Özçimen stops Çorum’s late opportunity
Göztepe had other first-half openings, with Henrique and Anjorin unable to beat Felipe. Çorum sought a way back after the break. Mahmic sent an effort over the bar, and goalkeeper Arda Özçimen kept out Moukoko’s close-range shot late in the match. The hosts also threatened through Janderson, whose ball across the goalmouth went without a finishing touch. Neither side added a second-half goal, leaving the early lead intact.[1], [2]
Coaches focus on pressing and mistakes
Göztepe coach Stanimir Stoilov said the two goals came from the forward pressing his team practised. He was pleased with a third consecutive victory but said the visitors had been allowed more initiative after the interval. He also criticised the energy provided by substitutes. Çorum coach Burak Yılmaz attributed the goals to individual mistakes, thanked his players for their second-half response and turned attention towards the next match against Erzurum.[1]
