Milano take an extended deciding set
Allianz Milano, the Italian men’s volleyball club, claimed its first SuperLega win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Acqua Sant’Anna Cuneo. At the Allianz Cloud in Milan, the hosts won the deciding set 19-17 after the teams had traded the opening four sets. Simone Porro supplied the final point with a winning serve. Milano collected two league points, while Cuneo remained on two points after losing both of its opening matches.[1], [2]
Cuneo answer each of Milano’s early leads
Milano took the opening set 25-21, but Cuneo levelled the match by winning the second 27-25. The hosts moved ahead again with a 25-20 third set, only for the visitors to take the fourth by the same score. Cuneo carried momentum into the decider before consecutive winning serves from Basil Dermaux helped Milano recover. The match continued beyond the normal deciding-set finish before Porro settled it from the service line.[1], [2]
Porro calls for work on blocking and defence
Porro said Milano had arrived after a difficult away match and knew it would need to fight. He said further work was needed on blocking and defence, including the handling of straightforward balls. Cuneo’s Codarin described the disappointment of losing after leading in the decider. He said Milano had made the difference with important points and wanted his side to be more aggressive when the scores were close.[2]
