Kane ends England’s wait for the award
Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich forward and England captain, won the men’s Ballon d’Or at the London Palladium ceremony. The 33-year-old finished ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal, becoming the first English footballer to receive the award in 25 years. Kane also collected the men’s striker of the year prize after a season in which he scored 73 goals for club and country.[1], [2]
Goals accompany Bayern’s domestic treble
His 2025/26 campaign included a third successive finish as the German league’s leading scorer. Bayern retained the Bundesliga title as part of a domestic treble. Kane also scored 14 goals in the UEFA Champions League, the European club competition in which Bayern reached the semi-finals. Across his club and international programme, he made 65 appearances.[1], [2]
London hosts the award’s anniversary ceremony
France Football, the French football magazine that created the award in 1956, has co-organised the ceremony with the Union of European Football Associations, UEFA, since 2024. The October 26 event marked its 70th anniversary in London. The choice of city paid tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, the English footballer who received the inaugural prize. Kane’s victory brought an English winner to that anniversary ceremony.[1]
