Frankfurt finish 3-1 ahead in Hamburg

Eintracht Frankfurt won 3-1 away to Hamburg in the DFB-Pokal, the German national football cup.[1], [2]

The second-round victory sent Frankfurt into the last 16. All four goals came after halftime. Captain Robin Koch opened the scoring in the 56th minute, heading in after midfielder Can Uzun’s cross and forward Jonathan Burkardt’s redirection across goal.[1]

Burkardt and Ebnoutalib extend the lead

Burkardt added the second in the 71st minute and substitute Younes Ebnoutalib scored in the 75th. Hamburg striker Terem Moffi replied in the 79th. Before the break, Frankfurt defender Jeremiaha Maluze had stopped Moffi as he approached goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. Atubolu also tipped a shot from Hamburg’s El Ouahdi over the bar, while Grønbaek sent another home chance wide.[1]

Hütter changes the shape and starting side

Frankfurt coach Adi Hütter used a 4-2-3-1 formation for the first time in a competitive match this season. Maluze replaced Lilian Brassier, who had minor knee discomfort, and Mario Götze and Uzun started instead of Noel Aseko and Ebnoutalib. Atubolu made his Frankfurt cup debut. The match took place at Volksparkstadion, Hamburg’s football stadium. Neither side scored before the interval;[1]
